Piano Tuning

Piano tuning is the act of making minute adjustments to the tensions of the strings of an acoustic piano to properly align the intervals between their tones so that the instrument is in tune.

Piano Inspection/Evaluation

At Chicago Piano Gallery we would be happy to provide you with a formal assessment of the value of your piano for insurance, sale, or other purposes. During an evaluation, the piano technician will inspect every piano component, including all action parts, belly(plate, soundboard, strings, tuning pin stability, etc.), cabinet, structural integrity, and the overall condition of the piano.

Piano Cleaning

Piano Belly Restoration

Soundboard repair or replacement. New or restored soundboards are varnished with high-quality custom varnish and hand-rubbed. Bridge repair or recap, new bridge pins, all plate screws, bolts, and hardware cleaned or plated including the nose bolts, agraffes replaced or cleaned and polished. The plate or harp is gilded with a gold finish over the epoxy primer and finished with a clear coat finish to give the plate or harp a shiny surface. The plate or harp is then felted and lettered, a new custom pin block drilled and fitted, new custom strings, and German Klinke Neuenrade turning pins—two colors to choose from, blue & nickel, plated. Damper heads are refinished, felted, installed, and regulated to complete this process.

Piano Action Restoration

The keyboard is repaired, cleaned, and felted; key center & front pins are cleaned & polished or replaced with new pins; keys are cleaned, repaired, re-bushed, and recovered with new plastic; white keys and black keys are refinished or replaced with new custom tops. Backchecks recovered or replaced, and key end felts replaced, key button repaired or replaced, let off screws cleaned & polished, let off buttons replaced, action stack repaired, cleaned & polished, action bracket cleaned & refinished, action screws cleaned & polished or replaced, action parts replaced with all new genuine or custom made action parts. Including hammers, shanks, flanges, and wippens (repetitions) Regulation & Voicing professionally done to concert level completes this process.

Piano Refinishing

includes taking apart all case parts then striped to bare wood, we will treat the wood and sand it down, the piano is then stained to costumer preference, after allowing the stain to fully dry one light coat of sealers is applied, once the sealer has dried, we will sand it down and apply 8-10 coats of lacquer (sand between each coat) piano then is stored in a special room to dry for 30 days, after drying procedure we will sand it down using 320, 400, 500, 600, 800, 1000 grit sandpaper, we will then rub it out using special compounds.
